How to Choose the Proper Size Dog Crate
Choosing the proper size dog crate for your dog should involve a number of considerations. Depending on the gender and the possibility of mixed ancestry, your dog may need a crate that is larger or smaller than listed.
This list is provided to help you choose the proper crate for your adult dog. Please consult your pet professional for additional guidance.
When selecting the proper crate for your pet, his SIZE is more important than his weight. A pet should have a crate 6" longer than his body length and 6" higher than his shoulder height for maximum comfort.
When using a crate for housebreaking purposes, the crate should be sized so that your dog can lie down comfortably, stand up without having to crouch and easily turn around in a circle. If the crate is any larger, your puppy might learn to soil one end and sleep at the other.
If you are crate training a puppy, consider using a crate that includes a divider panel. This will allow you to purchase a crate based on the expected adult size of your dog and will allow you to adjust the living area inside the crate as your puppy grows.
